"Fire and earth" sleeve tattoo

The 2nd of two "Elemental" designs by Jo Harrison.

outline for the 2nd sleeve - with 1st complete

Now that Jo has completed "Air and Water" - the 1st of the Elemental inspired sleeve designs - we are now free to start on the 2nd design: "Fire and Earth"...

This right sleeve design again weaves together traditional tattoo imagery with pagan symbolism - and reinterprets a mainstay of the Japanese style with a contemporary western twist. Fire is represented by an oriental-style Phoenix, with it's tail twining back and through various leaves and flowers, wreathed in smoke and "wind". Earth is symbolised by the cthonic symbolism of snakes and poppies - accompanied by insects and a beautiful scarab (the snakes are actually an existing tattoo - and one of my earliest - but they will be reworked and recoloured to blend them seamlessly into the new design).

In completing this design, Jo is also working with a new technique (on me at least!) by using a coloured outline and power-lining (rather than the traditional black) - this should make for a richer, more realistic effect - and give the finished design a much deeper and more intense colour.

Jo is currently on her "Sweet sting World tour" of Conventions and guest-spots - catch up with her tour-dates and blog at: http://www.joharrison.co.uk/

Below are the photos of this new design in progress.
